Overview

The Bois de Boulogne is a vast park on the western edge of Paris, the city's great green retreat and a beloved spot for picnics, boating, and escaping the urban bustle. Covering over 800 hectares — more than twice the size of New York's Central Park — this former royal hunting forest was transformed in the 19th century into a landscaped public park of woods, lakes, lawns, and gardens for the people of Paris.

Parisians and visitors come to picnic on its lawns, row boats on its lakes, cycle and stroll its paths, and enjoy its attractions, including beautiful gardens, the Pré Catelan, and the modern Fondation Louis Vuitton art museum. With its woodlands, waterways, and gardens on the edge of the city, the Bois de Boulogne is a cherished green escape and picnic ground for Paris.
