Phoenix Park
One of Europe's largest enclosed city parks, in Dublin, home to wild deer and grand picnic grounds.
Overview
Phoenix Park in Dublin is one of the largest enclosed urban parks in Europe, a vast 700-hectare green space on the edge of the Irish capital and a beloved spot for picnics, walks, and wildlife. Far larger than most city parks, its broad grasslands, woodlands, and tree-lined avenues offer abundant room to spread a blanket and relax, with the unusual bonus of a free-roaming herd of wild fallow deer that have lived in the park for centuries.
The park is home to the residence of the Irish President (Áras an Uachtaráin), Dublin Zoo, the towering Wellington Monument, and historic gardens, and hosts major events. With its herds of deer grazing the grasslands, its monuments and woods, and its enormous open spaces, Phoenix Park is a cherished and distinctive picnic and recreation ground in the heart of Dublin.
