In October of 2012, angler Joseph Seeberger set out to catch Bass using a minnow as bait. What he reeled in, with the help of his brother and two friends was a Great Lakes state-record setting Muskellunge. The Portage man was fishing Lake Bellaire in Antrim County, Michigan when the 58 pound fish took hold of his line. Two hours later the foursome landed the fish, which measured 58 inches long. The previous Great Lakes state-record Muskellunge catch weighed in at 50.5 pounds with a length of 56.13 inches, and was caught in 2009 on Torch Lake, also in Antrim County. The International Committee of the Modern Day Muskellunge World Record Program has now declared that Mr. Seeberger’s catch is the
world Muskellunge record holder as well.
