Griffith Park
One of North America's largest urban parks, in Los Angeles, with picnic grounds, trails, and the Observatory.
Overview
Griffith Park in Los Angeles is one of the largest urban parks in North America, a vast 1,700-hectare expanse of rugged hills, chaparral, and canyons rising above the city and offering Angelenos a sprawling natural escape for picnics, hiking, and recreation. Far wilder than most city parks, it combines extensive picnic grounds and lawns with miles of trails into the Hollywood Hills.
The park is home to many of LA's icons: the famous Griffith Observatory with its sweeping city views, the Los Angeles Zoo, the Greek Theatre, the Hollywood Sign (viewable from its trails), and shaded picnic areas in its lower reaches. With its blend of accessible picnic grounds and genuine hillside wilderness in the heart of the city, Griffith Park is a beloved outdoor playground for Los Angeles.
