Mesquite (Az)

Mesquite (Az) is a public campground in the region, managed by USDA Forest Service.

Sites here can be reserved in advance, and the campground books up on summer weekends and holidays.

This is a Public campground for tents and RVs.

Reserve sites ahead through the campground's reservation system; some loops may hold first-come sites.

Fees:

Campsites are $16 per night, per site. America the Beautiful Senior or Access Disability passholders are eligible for a 50% discount. Pass must be valid and present with passholder at time of stay.

This location is available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Visitors are required to physically arrive at the campground to purchase and claim a site. Once on-site, you may be able to pay for your campsite(s) by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app, and the Scan and Pay feature. If this option is available, you will need to first download the free Recreation.gov mobile app https://www.recreation.gov/mobile-app prior to your arrival as some remote areas have limited or no cellular service. Camping passes can also be purchased at a Tonto Fee Machine Pass. $16 per site, per night. Nearest fee machine location is at the Cave Creek Ranger Station.

This campground is good much of the year. Spring and fall bring mild weather and thinner crowds, while summer is busiest — book ahead or arrive early in the warm months.

The surrounding country supports the classic the region mix of outdoor recreation, and anglers will find bass, panfish, catfish and other regional sport fish in nearby waters.

Check the weather and any fire restrictions before you go, carry plenty of water, and be bear- and wildlife-aware where applicable. Cell service is often limited at campgrounds — download maps and tell someone your plans.

Practice Leave No Trace: pack out all trash, keep a clean site, and store food securely where wildlife is present. Observe posted quiet hours, fire restrictions and pet rules — campfire bans are common in dry summer months.

Reserve early for summer weekends and holidays, or arrive midday on a weekday for first-come sites. Bring layers, a headlamp, and your own water if potability isn't confirmed, and double-check the rig-length and hookup situation before towing in.
